Window and Soffit

Last week,we put windows and doors on position temporarily,then, we fixed soffit.

Put windows and doors on position temporarily with small pieces of block(3mm to 8mm).Measure window frame or door frame from inside,beyond lintel stud or sill 10mm,then nail them temporarily.For big door,we put steel and plastic mat on the sill before we fix it.

Fix soffit under soffit frame, nail one side on the nogs,other side is in fascia or fly rafter,connect them with jointer.

we also fixed cavity batten on the wall frame horizontally,under soffit directly,1 nail/300 mm.

Building wrap

We have done some work last week.

1.Wrap building paper around the building,from top plate/nog to boundary joist,leave doors and windows off,make sure that the wrap is both straight and tight;
2.Fix blue ribbon 3 lines around the building,hold building paper firm,prevent building paper ratten;
3.Fix plastic corner at windows and doors,for bottom sill;
4.Put aulband(sealant tape) on the 4 corners of windows and doors,top corners run 200mm both directions,bottom sill has a full length aluband and also run 200mm up both sides.Make sure push aluband tight on the corners;
5.Fix vermin strip on the boundary joist;
6.Vertical fixing cavity battens at the edge of windows and doors,also at 4 corners.

Final work of truss and wall

We did some final work of trusses and wall framing.

1.Nail ceiling batten to bottom chord;
2.Nail metal angle brace with 3 nails on the edge stud,2 nails on the middle stud;
3.Nail stud,bottom plate and joist with straps;
4.Fix jack stud,lintel/jack stud,top plate with gang nail or straps;
5.Fix external corners,2 nails / 600 mm;
6.Finish ceiling opening(trim out).

truss

We were continue doing roof work last week.

We have done:
1.Nail rafters on double top plates with Z nails;
2.Nail purlins on rafters with Z nails;
3.Fix dragon ties at ceiling corner and fix brace at the center of roof.
4.Fix nogs on lower rafter for soffit;
5.Fix a diagonal outrigger on a roof corner,fix fly rafter on the outrigger and purlin;
6.Put jack stud between top plate and lintel, then connect jack stud and lintel with strips bracing;
7.Connect studs and top plates with U nails at inside.
8.Nail ceiling batten under truss;

We nearly have finished roof work,have little to do next week.

place trusses

We began to set up trusses two weeks ago,I'll write how to do it in sequence.

Steps to set up trusses:
1.Erecting scaffolding;
2.Trusses are delivered to site,hang them on top plate in correct order,bracing them on the floor temporarily;
3.Reading the plan of setting up trusses;
4.Marking trusses space;
5.Position gable end truss.Mark centre of building width, also mark centre of bottom cord. These two marks will align the truss to the centre position.Temporary brace and plumb both gable trusses
6.String a line between the two apexes,one is the front,another is the second truss from back;
7.Position intermediate ( common ) trusses.Position each truss according to the markings along the top plates,align the apex of each truss with the string line ( gable-gable );
8. Nail ceiling runner at the centre along these trusses and fix brace on both gable trusses.
9.Fix purlins on the trusses.150mm from the apex to the lower side,spacing is 600 mm and 500 mm.The lowest is flush with the edge of rafter;
10.Fix outriggers to gable trusses and fix fly rafters to outriggers;
11.Fix strap bracing at front area and back area;

We haven't finished it yet,we'll continue do it next week.
